Sally Mann.

Sally Mann, Nov 2007 by Michelle Hood.

Sally Mann was best known for her portraiture and landscape photography.
She regularly used8x10bellows camera and was interested in black and white imagery.
Sally mann also experimented with platinum and bromoil printing processes.

Sally Mann was born in Lexington, Virginia during 1951. She remained close to home there after. She is best known for producing series on portraiture, architecture, landscape and still life. She liked to photograph portraits of her family, her young children and her husband (The immediate family) published in 1992. Her work has attracted controversy at times, but it has always been influential. The public perceived her work as child pornography due to the amount of flesh shown in her imagery but Sally Mann added "natural through the eyes of a mother, since she has seen her children in every state: happy, sad, playful, sick, bloodied, angry and even naked." 1977, she has attracted a wide audience with her firstsolo exhibition, at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington D.C.
She explored sexuality, death, innocence and vulnerability.

During the1990s, Mann began exploring landscapes on wet plate collodion 8x10 glass negatives using her bellows camera. These can be viewed in books 'Still time', 'Mother Land: Recent Landscapes of Georgia and Virginiain 1997' and 'Deep South: Landscapes of Louisiana and Mississippi in1999.'(40"x50") black-and-white prints were created by plateswhich are coated with collodion, dipped in silverNitrate, and exposed while still wet, called the 'wet plate' process.

I have chosen Sally Mann to explore simply because I believe her work relates to human form and has been inspired by the human body and natural shapes. I intend to experiment with siolettes and the shapes we create with our bodies for my series for fine Art.

Jasper James

Jasper James lives and works in China, he photographs editorial, advertising and corporate work.
He explores a range of techniques such as portraits, landscapes and studio.
Previously he has lived in New York, London and Beijing. James has completed assignments for some of the most leading magazines, design and advertising companies such as Ferrari, british airways, volvo, marks and spencer and many more.
He has also photographed many well known celebrities such as Morgan Freeman, Russell Crowe etc.
I'm particularly interested in his silhouette imagery which is what I want to explore for this brief, his work inspires me and I like the use of experimentation that has been included with in these shots. These look like an overlay of two separate images but work really well.
These are not exactly what I'm going to create but it is a good example and something to inspire me along my journey.
